Zagreb and Plitvice

Croatia’s capital is an up and coming City break destination in its own right (it was voted Europe’s best for Christmas markets in 2016 !)

With flights becoming more frequent from the UK, it’s the ideal short break destination, or how about a starting point for a multi centre Croatia holiday itinerary?

Things to see whilst here? Zagreb Cathedral, why not cycle, easy with their equivalent of the London Rental system. (think Boris bikes) everywhere is easily accessible. Or visit the less well known Upper Town and visit St Marks, a 13th century Gothic church, and visit the Croatian Museum of Naïve Art.
Apart from some great shopping and culture, there is a huge amount of parkland. So if the weather is good – take a picnic!

The perfect place to move onto from Zagreb is the Plitvice Lakes (pronounced Pleetvitsay) a UNESCO protected site, this is a marvel of green from the emerald lakes to the flora and fauna and natural travertine. Whilst accommodation tends to be more reminiscent of Swiss chalets it’s a must do! And visit Rastoke, a beautiful old town built on waterfalls, all of which have their own names.

And from here, for those pursuing a multi centre tailor made holiday to Croatia, its easy to go cross country to Istria and Kvarner or to head south towards Zadar, Split and onward to Dubrovnik. Check out the hotels below.
