Coming from a small town in the East of Croatia, I grew up dreaming of faraway places and foreign languages. After years of travelling around Europe and living in England for a while, I decided to return to Croatia and explore my own country a little further. Ever since my childhood, I spent every summer on the Croatian coast, visiting stunning islands like Korčula, Hvar and Brač. The place I felt (and still feel) most at home has always been Zagreb, the capital city. It always had that allure of grandeur my little hometown lacked, and I was (and still am) charmed by its medieval Upper Town full of winding cobbled streets wrapped in history.

Split is my favourite destination on the coast; a historian by profession, I am absolutely in love with the Ancient Roman palace in its very centre. The Palace was built by Emperor Diocletian as his retirement home over seventeen hundred years ago; even today, all life in Split happens within the palace’s massive walls. Only a short drive away from Split lies the charming city of Trogir, once a Greek colony and today a wonderful seaside destination. My perfect Croatian holiday would of course include Dubrovnik – the “pearl of the Adriatic” as Lord Byron famously dubbed it. An absolute treat for history buffs, this walled city, built to protect the then-Republic from the Ottomans, will leave you struggling for words – and I’m not even exaggerating! Beaches are wonderful here as well – it’s not all about history – and you’ll want to return to have a glass of that amazing wine again or sample the traditional Dalmatian “pašticada”.

I am very lucky to be able to return to the Croatian coast every summer and it is a great pleasure to introduce first-time (as well as returning) travellers to my wonderful country.

Living in Slovenia means that I'm perfectly situated to explore the neighbouring countries of Croatia and Italy, which I regularly visit to discover new hidden gems and experience their unique cultures.

My love for travel has taken me to some of the world's most exciting and exotic destinations, allowing me to immerse myself in different cultures and connect with people from all walks of life.

Dubrovnik in Croatia is my favourite destination, and as a seasoned travel expert, I have explored many places across the globe. Dubrovnik is a stunning city known for its rich history, beautiful architecture, and breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea.

Whenever I visit Dubrovnik, I always make sure to walk along the nearly two-kilometre-long walls that offer a unique and stunning view of the city and the sea. The Old Town is another highlight of Dubrovnik, and as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is home to many historic landmarks such as the Onofrio Fountain, the Sponza Palace, and the Rector's Palace.

The town is also filled with cafes, restaurants, and shops where visitors can sample the local cuisine and purchase unique souvenirs.

Overall, Dubrovnik is a magical place that should be on everyone's travel bucket list. Its stunning views, rich history, and vibrant culture make it a must-visit destination for any visitor.

Rovinj in Istria is particularly worth a visit. And if you like the idea of a two-country holiday, then pairing this destination with Slovenia is a viable option too!

Surrounded on three sides, Rovinj used to be an island before the gap that separated it from the mainland was filled in. The sea, along with the architecture is what I adore. I love swimming and the deep clear, azure warm waters found here are perfect for leisurely swimmers like myself or keen scuba divers. As you can imagine, the seafood is simply the best here. Fishing boats pull into the harbour every day with fresh catches. You must have an ice cream (or three!) here too.

It’s a great base for exploring. See the Roman Amphitheatre in Pula and visit charming medieval hilltop towns where scenery reminiscent of Tuscany greets you. You can even nip over the “border” to Slovenia and visit the world-famous Postojna Caves and Predjama Castle.

A holiday to Rovinj really does have it all, days at the beach, great cuisine, lots of sights to see and fabulously friendly people.

I have travelled pretty extensively across Croatia over the last few years, viewing hotels we offer as part of our portfolio and meeting the management and staff, as well as seeking out new hotels to offer.

Croatia is a beautiful country and has so much to offer, from the amazing cities on the mainland to the harbour towns on the incredible islands as well as some areas of outstanding natural beauty in the national parks.

My favourite place is the stunning island of losinj in the Kvarner region (known as the island of Vitality), for some this Island may seem a little out the way but once you cross over to Cres from the mainland it’s only about an hour and a half to Mali losinj (one of the two main towns). Here there are two amazing hotels in Čikat bay, the Bellevue (which is more modern) and then the Boutique Hotel Alhambra (made up of 2 villas and a modern wing) these hotels allow you to relax in beautiful surrounds whilst being still close by to the town and harbour which boasts a nice selection of bars and restaurants.

Losinj is an island with amazingly pure air with wild herbs and plants which is used therapeutically, as well as 250km of walking trails, it really is a great island to feel completely lost in.
