Well Christmas is nearly here, and this week the team have been eating drinking and making merry in advance of the festivities.
Last week we were invited to the Croatian Embassy for a Christmas Carol evening. It was fab. Alison only went for the Ferrero Rocher so was a little disappointed that even though she met the Ambassador there wasn’t any; but soon cheered up with the hams, cheese, truffle pasta, arancini and crispy caramel covered nuts. And then the traditional carols started up and it was really festive. We also hooked up with the President of ABTA as well which is always great.
Then yesterday, a lot more informally, we had our own Christmas lunch –and forgot to take any pictures. Sorry ….. it was at the old Coaching Inn, The Brewer’s Arms, opposite our offices. The poor Landlady’s chef has had to go home to South Africa unexpectedly so she is a bit in the lurch coming up to Christmas and the New Year. Babs had to physically restrain me from offering to come in and help I felt so sorry for her..
On the business side – we are starting to get a lot of interest for holidays next year. Some people are just great – others do still seem to have a bit of a rose coloured glasses concept of prices. Babs did a quote for the beautiful Villa Bellavista, which, with 2 hire cars, return flights from the UK AND the villa came in at £698 per person for TWO WEEKS !! – and this was over their budget ? I think the Tourist Board could turn their mind to get people to understand that Croatia not a cheap place; think Italy in pricing terms rather than Bulgaria !
Of course being in the EU hasn’t helped with keeping a lid on pricing. We heard this week that Branko Grcic, their Finance Minister has already claimed that Croatia will get more financial benefit from EU membership than not – ie, they will get more money back from the EU than they put in. But this does mean they have to comply with a lot more regulation and higher taxation and this is putting up prices.
So – we really are urging early booking for this year more than ever. We have some great early booking deals with Hotel Bozica and Hotel Villa Andrea. The value added extras at Hotel Bozica include free return airport transfers, free meal at their a la carte restaurants, room upgrade where available, wine and fruit in room upon arrival. All of which are well worth having – trust me !
Villa Andrea is a lovely boutique family run property, located right at the end of the lovely promenade in Tucepi. Step out of the hotel onto the beach – and book by the end of March to enjoy a 10% discount.
Don’t rely on yourself to be a travel expert – its taken us years – just contact us for real expert help to Croatia. We know how long it takes to get from Istria to Dubrovnik, we know how long the ferry transfers between islands are, and we pretty well know all the hotel managers and owners too, so we are confident in our claim to be good at what we do. And we include everything, so there are no nasty extras, the quote we give you is the price including bags and seats.
In closing here is a festive fact. Male reindeer lose their antlers in winter, so chances are that Santa’s are actually all girlie reindeer. Not afraid of long nights and hard work – yup- we’d agree.
Whatever you are doing – Have a good one ! Sretan Bozic I zdrava nova godina (Happy Christmas and a Healthy New Year !)
