Rising early, off to Paklenica National Park, the best known park for hiking and rock climbing. Enjoy the diverse flora and fauna and explore the ancient mountain shepherd residences, as well as ruins of chapels and churches, all scattered along the way. The name Paklenica is though to come from a local black pine sap called Paklina, which was used historically for treating wounds and also to coat and waterproof wooden boats. Hiking is the only way to reach this beautiful area
Van drive – 60 mins. Hiking – 4 – 6 hours – moderate
Day 4 – River Kayaking
After breakfast, head out for canoeing down the ‘wild west like’ canyon of Zrmanja and Krupa rivers. After a short introduction to kayaking, dependent upon the river conditions, your craft maybe raft, canoe or sit on kayaks. This trip will take in waterfalls, some easy rapids , steep sided canyons, and some delightful hidden swimming pools! In all likelihood, our Group will be the only one on the river ! Return to the Aparthotel to enjoy dinner on the terrace and enjoy the views.
Van drive – 30 mins. Kayaking or Rafting – Class I/II rapids – 3 – 4 hours
Day 5 – Relaxation
This is your ‘day off’ where you can opt to explore on your own – maybe visit Split or Trogir ?- or just relax. Alternatively there will be plenty of organised activities for you to join in with if you like – these are at an additional cost, payable locally (circa euro 50 per person, minimum group size 4) .
Day 6 – Trekking
Over centuries, the rivers in the Velebit Mountain Park have created amazing canyons and tributary waterfalls. The rivers Zrmanja and Krupa are considered to be the most beautiful rivers in Europe, with green banks and perfectly clear water. Start the day at the village of Golubici, almost uninhabited these days. Here we will visit a local farm specialising in sheep and goats cheese. After a tasting session, head off to the Bridge of Kuda. After this hike, we stop and visit the Orthodox monastery on the riverbank – enjoy the total silence, interrupted only by the sound of the River and birdsong. We then continue our journey to the historic twon of Zadar.
Van drive 75 mins. Hiking 3 – 4 hours – Moderate
Enjoy breakfast. Then from outside the hotel leave for the Zrmanja River Canyon by kayak. En route you are likely to see turtles as well as a huge variety of fish and birds. After kayaking upstream on calm waters, we will make a stop for swimming and jumping off cliffs, then stop for an optional lunch break. Return to your hotel and enjoy your farewell dinner.
