The Plitvice Lakes National Park is Croatia’s most popular natural tourist attraction, covering over 300 square kilometres of total area. It is one of the oldest and largest national parks in Croatia which first opened in 1949 and was granted UNESCO World Heritage Status in 1979.
The beauty of the park is made up of sixteen lakes, all interconnected by a backdrop of majestic waterfalls. Heavily forested, the area is also home to many different species of wildlife including deer, bears and rare species of bird. You will also see clouds of butterflies dance above the mineral rich waters below.
The Plitvice Lakes are a perfect place to visit all year round and in any season. In summer the park comes to life with luscious greenery, whilst autumn embodies a rustic charm of rich colours, or magical snowy scenes in winter.
