The Martecchini family settled in Dubrovnik at the end of the 18th century. They were craftsmen in printing books. In the 19th century the family published and printed books, graphics and newspapers.
The last member of Martecchini family to live permanently in the house was city physician Baldo Martecchini (1878 – 1938). Baldo was a remarkable and wealthy man. A physician who treated the poor for free, charging over the odds to the rich in order to do so. He had some quirky habits, one of which is that he slept on his own operating table ! Relax - the beds now provided are modern and comfortable.....The house is still owned by the Martecchini family today.
Completely Croatia says:- Base yourself right in the heart of ancient Dubrovnik
